Alex Rodriguez Facing MLB Investigation Involving Poker Gambling
Alex Rodriguez
Alex Rodriguez has always been a player who was overly concerned with his image. If recent allegations are true about the level of poker gambling the Yankees third baseman was involved with, Rodriguez will have much more than his reputation to be worried about.
The Yankees superstar is facing an investigation by Major League Baseball into the allegations that Rodriguez has been involved in high stakes underground poker games, If the reports turn out to be true, Rodriguez could face a possible suspension from the league.
Bud Selig has already shown during his tenure that he has no compassion for gamblers, especially those who have been warned. Pete Rose is still banned from the game for betting on baseball.
While Rodriguez’ gambling habits do not appear to be involving betting on his own sport, he was already warned by the league to stay away from underground poker games. An MLB spokesman announced earlier this week that they were looking into the matter.
On Thursday, Rodriguez’ publicist Richard Rubenstein, who certainly has earned his money over the years, came out and said the original story regarding the poker games, published by Star Magazine, has “numerous factual inaccuracies.”
What Rubenstein did not say, however, was that Rodriguez did not take part in the poker games. Rodriguez was just one of several celebrities named in the Star article. Actors Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Tobey Maguire were all supposedly at the high stakes poker outings.
Rodriguez is expected to cooperate with MLB during their investigation, and according to several reports, the Yankees third baseman has agreed to meet with investigators to answer questions. If the league concludes that Rodriguez was at the games, he could be suspended at some point during the Yankees stretch run this year.
