Patriots Assume Super Bowl Betting Odds Lead
Brett Favre and the Vikings struggling.
A whirlwind NFL season has seen several teams thought to be on the verge of the Super Bowl collapse, leaving sports betting adjustments that have the team of the last decade, the New England Patriots, once again becoming the wagering favorite to win the Super Bowl. The Patriots are listed at online gambling sites as a 7-1 pick to win it all.
Preseason betting had the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings among the small group of teams considered contenders for the 2010-2011 title, but both teams have suffered from inconsistent play and clubhouse distractions. Bettors loved the Cowboys’ talent, but the chemistry which melds a team wasn’t to be found under head coach Wade Phillips, who was fired last week. Still, many critics say the Dallas situation will remain problematic until owner Jerry Jones takes a less prominent role in football decisions.
The Vikings also are undergoing coaching upheaval, as Brad Childress’ job security has been questioned following the team’s failure to build on last year’s success. Quarterback Brett Favre in particular hasn’t had nearly the season he did a year ago after the team placed all its hopes in his hands.
Meanwhile, wily Bill Belichick has guided his team to several impressive victories, and has once again become the gambling darling, along with the Atlanta Falcons. However, as is the norm for this tumultuous season, the Patriots followed their wins with an unexpected loss to the Cleveland Browns.
