Golden Globe Betting Hot At Online Sports Books
2011 Golden Globe Betting Begins
The past couple of years has seen reality television become the hottest bet on the Internet for gamblers. This past week, however, sports books have been busy taking early action on the Golden Globe awards after the nominations were released.
Shortly after the nominations were announced, popular sports books such as William Hill and Ladbrokes began offering odds on which movies, actors, and actresses would win in the individual categories. The most popular bets with these award shows is always the main categories.
Best Picture is the award that is given out last at the Golden Globe’s and the nominees this year again pack a strong punch. The Social Network, the story of how Facebook was created, has the shortest odds at William Hill at 4/9. The King’s Speech 5/2, Inception and The Fighter 10/1, and Black Swan 16/1, are all betting choices as well.
The Social Network also has the betting favorite in the Best Director category. David Fincher is a heavy favorite at 4/11, followed by Tom Hooper and Christopher Nolan at 5/1, Darren Afonosky at 10/1, and David O’Russell at 14/1.
Natalie Portman is expected to bring home the Golden Globe for Best Actress. Portman has odds of 2/5 for her role in Black Swan. Jennifer Lawrence appears to be Portman’s main competition, with odds of 5/1 for Winter Bone. Michelle Williams is also 5/1 for Blue Valentine.
On the men’s side, Colin Firth fans will have to bet three times as much as they want to win if they believe Firth will win for his performance in The King’s Speech. Ryan Gosling comes in as the long shot in the Best Actor category, with odds of 16/1.
