Las Vegas Casinos Packed With Celebrities For WSOP Main Event
The World Series of Poker main event began this past Thursday, and that meant that dozens of celebrities flew into Las Vegas with the hopes of becoming an even bigger star in the game of poker. The usual suspects and even some newcomers have made their way to Sin City.
Jason Alexander and Ray Romano are perhaps the two celebrities most associated with professional poker. Alexander and Romano have both taken part in televised tournaments, and have bought their seat into WSOP events.
Jennifer Tilly and Jason Garrett are also on the list of celebrities that are involved with this year’s main event. The sports world is being represented by a newly crowned champion. Shawn Marion of the Dallas Mavericks has played in several events at this year’s WSOP, and he has been seen throughout Las Vegas in recent weeks.
Sin City offers celebrities a little bit of everything. The stars can make their way to any of the well-publicized shows that play nightly at Las Vegas’ biggest casino resorts, or they can lounge by the pool and host their own party’s in te afternoon.
The allure to see celebrities and possibly win big money in the process has brought thousands of amateur poker players to Las Vegas this summer. The final count for the main event reached over 7,000 players entered, and the first place prize money is expected to be over $8 million.
In the past month, the poker and celebrity world has been rocked by an alleged high stakes poker game story. Tobey Maguire is said to be the ringleader of the game, but names such as Alex Rodriguez, Gabe Kaplan, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck have all been associated with the high stakes action.
