Paris Hilton Meets New Sheriff in Town

Paris Hilton, having been one of the dozens of celebrities receiving special treatment at the hands of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, may be surprised to find law enforcement in Clark County, Nevada, less accommodating to her scofflaw lifestyle. Hilton was arrested along with her boyfriend and erstwhile club manager Cy Waits last week in Ls Vegas after a traffic stop revealed her to be in possession of cocaine.

Hilton has had her incidents before with drugs and police, but the lack of consequences has left the heiress seemingly inured to potential backlash. A stay in the L.A. County jail lasted only minutes rather than the prescribed weeks, leaving Paris free to resume her global partying lifestyle.

Further, discovery of marijuana in her purse in South Africa during the World Cup was blamed on a companion, as Paris denied knowledge of any illegal drugs.

Hilton may think the “it’s not mine” defense will carry her again, as she says the purse containing the cocaine in the Las Vegas incident doesn’t belong to her. However, the simple-minded Paris, who once swore in court she had only been to London, not England, told authorities that the credit cards, cash, and sundry other items in the purse were hers, just not the cocaine. She also said she thought the white powder was gum.

But Las Vegas police are far less forgiving of celebrities than their L.A. counterparts, and Hilton is finding herself in a legal pickle. Police records show the cocaine was only found when Paris asked a policeman if she could retrieve something from the purse, and the suspicious baggie fell out.

Further, Las Vegas police spokesman Barbara Morgan told the L.A. Times “it does not matter if she says the purse is not hers, it was in her possession. I cannot tell you how many times I have found narcotics in people’s pants pockets, and they tell me the pants are not theirs.”

Looks like Paris’ habit of blithely walking away from legal trouble may be ending.
