Seminoles Watching To See If Online Casinos Approved In Florida
If Lawmakers in Florida create online poker legislation, the Seminole Indian casinos stand to gain more power in the gaming industry.
The Seminole Indians and their team of lawyers have always been quick to find loopholes in Florida’s gaming laws that would allow the Seminoles to offer more games at their casinos. That is why the tribe is watching closely to see if lawmakers regulate any form of online gambling.
Legislators this past week have been discussing the possibility of allowing pari-mutuel facilities in the state to offer online poker. The pari-mutuels would use third-party hubs as their connection to Florida gamblers on the Internet.
The Seminoles, by law, can offer any games that are legal in the state when it comes to gambling. It is likely that if the online poker legislation is passed, the Seminoles may try to expand to full online casinos.
“Knowing the crafty ways that lawyers for the Seminoles have interpreted Florida law, it is conceivable the attorney’s would believe that if any online gambling form became regulated, then the Seminoles may be allowed to offer other games as well.”
For the pari-mutuels, the online poker would help increase revenue, which in turn, would increase tax revenue paid to the state. The Seminoles, however, may have their eyes on not only offering the poker, but also blackjack, slots, craps, and roulette online.
Much like the discussions about the online poker laws, the Seminoles future action is pure speculation at this point. History says that the Seminoles will take full advantage of any gambling law changes, and that could be a good thing for thousands of current online gamblers in the Sunshine State.
